AI – just hearing that term might make you think of robots taking over the world. I get it! When ChatGPT popped up, I had a lot of hesitation and what-ifs. But now it’s like having a second, non-ADHD brain to help me sort through all my wild ideas. It’s actually a huge asset to my business right now.
I’ll take things I never thought I would say for $1000.
When you’re a solopreneur doing ALL THE THINGS on your own, that’s a win.
I’m busting some of the biggest myths I’ve heard about AI and I’ll show you how you can get started using AI in a way that feels like you.
Let’s talk about some of the most common myths I hear about using AI and why they’re not always true.
This is true only if people are using AI outputs as is. They are NOT ready-to-use! Yes, many people do copy/paste but to use AI in an ethical way, you really need to take some time and tweak everything it gives you. Even with doing that, it still saves me a ton of time because it’s so hard for me to get my ideas started. You want to make sure you add your personal touch otherwise it tends to sound robotic.
I like to think of AI as a brainstormer. Sometimes my brain just won’t brain and I have the ideas but I can’t articulate them in a way that makes sense. That’s where ChatGPT comes in and helps me organize my thoughts, brainstorm new ideas, and even help me get started creating (blog posts, offers, etc.)
Is it a shortcut? Hell yeah! And I’m all about taking shortcuts when I can without sacrificing the quality of my work. I mean, who doesn’t like a quicker way to do things? Shortcuts are not always a bad thing.
This has been the opposite for me. ChatGPT is my inspiration ignitor and it keeps me organized. From there, I take that inspiration and I create whatever it is I’m working on. This blog post? ChatGPT helped me with the outline and some inspo but these are all my words. I’ve used it to help me create new digital products too – the key is to comb through it and make it your own.
I used to worry about this and didn’t like to admit that I used AI because I didn’t want people to think I “sold my soul”. Take some time and give your AI tool a chance to learn you, your brand voice, and the tone you use. You can prime it by feeding it some of your content and asking it to evaluate your brand voice. I remind ChatGPT from time to time to use my brand voice even though it’s been primed for a while. I just want to make sure it doesn’t forget. 😉 Priming your AI tool helps you maintain an authentic, relationship-based brand.
Absolutely not. I would never recommend taking the outputs and using them as is. For starters, AI is pulling from the internet so you run the risk of plagiarism. Run outputs through a plagiarism checker before you use it. AI is also not entirely accurate so you need to do some fact-checking. Then, let’s go back to #1 – if you use AI outputs as is, it will sound generic and AI-generated. Always add your own spin to the content you create with AI. If your AI tool has learned your voice and tone, a lot of the time it will spit out content that sounds just like you. Even when this happens to me, I still comb through it and make tweaks.
If you’re new to using AI and you want to get a feel for how you can use it in a way that still feels authentic, here’s how to start.
Feed it some of your content and ask it to evaluate your brand voice and tone. You can also phrase it by saying “based on this content, what are your thoughts on my brand?” Once ChatGPT got to know me a bit more, I prompted it “what are 12 blog posts you’d expect to find on my blog?” Every single one that it gave me is a topic I would talk about.
Another great way to prime it is to prompt it to ask you questions that you can answer to give AI a better understanding of what your business is all about. I was doing some planning and the first prompt I gave ChatGPT was to ask me some questions to get clarity on what I was planning.
Use AI to brainstorm some content ideas, headlines, subject lines, CTAs, etc. then go through them and pick out the ones you’d actually use or that you can tweak to be usable. If I feel stuck on something, I will open up a new chat and vent to ChatGPT then let it organize my thoughts and ask me questions that I hadn’t thought of. It works wonders just to get the mumble jumble out of my head and have it organized for me!
AI outputs are not a final draft at all. Use what it gives you to get the ideas flowing and be sure to tweak it to fit your personality, brand, etc. For me, it doesn’t feel any different or take any longer than writing a rough draft and editing it. One of my biggest downfalls of writing content is that I’m afraid I’m gonna forget something important and that’s another reason why it’s nice to have AI help me.
AI won’t completely take over your creativity and make your work feel generic if you don’t let it. It isn’t meant to be a replacement for anything – it’s an assistant. It helps you articulate your ideas. Use it to get inspired, save some time, and work a little smarter.
If you’re still feeling unsure, hit me up! I’d love to chat about how AI can make your life a little easier.
Let’s make your to-do list feel manageable and your life a little more spacious.
