How I Use ChatGPT (and Tweak It) While Keeping My Business Authentic

Can AI really help without making you feel cookie-cutter? The short answer is YES but there is a small caveat – you have to prep your AI tool and tweak everything it gives you.

It can feel a little intimidating to let an AI tool like ChatGPT, Claude, or Jasper into your creative process when you don’t want your work to feel generic.

I was skeptical at first, too, but over time I learned how to use AI in a way that doesn’t replace my voice. It’s like a brainstorming buddy who never runs out of ideas even when my brain has run dry.

Let’s talk about my process for using AI to save time, spark ideas, and still produce work that feels 100% human.

My Humanized AI Process

Here is my process to make sure AI works with me so I can stay in tune with my personality, brand voice, values, and my audience.

Step 1 – Prime Your AI Tool

I mentioned this in my last blog post but you have to give your AI tool a chance to get to know your vibe. Once it does, I promise the outputs will be so much better. You still have to tweak them but they will be more thorough and a better match for your brand.

Here are some ways to prime your AI tool:

  • Feed it some of your content and ask it to evaluate your brand voice and tone. This gives YOU a feel for how your brand is perceived and from there, you know how to prompt AI to give you better outputs.
  • Brain dump exactly what your business is about, the types of people you love to work with (and who you DON’T love to work with), what your goals are, what content you enjoy creating or marketing with, literally anything you can think of.
  • Once I’ve done that, I like to ask it to give me 12 blog post topics that it would expect to see on my blog just to make sure we’re on the same page. If there are some topics that don’t fit what I’m going for, I let ChatGPT know where it was off.
  • Another great way to prime your AI tool is to prompt it to ask you questions to get to know your brand, business, goals, etc. Then you answer the questions and it helps AI better understand your entire business.

Step 2 – Set Clear Intentions

When I open up ChatGPT, I take a second to think about what I need to accomplish. Am I brainstorming a new offer? Do I need a blog post outline? Am I feeling stuck and just need to vent a little and organize my thoughts?

Once I know what I’m looking for with AI, I can create detailed prompts to guide it. The clearer your instructions are, the better your results will be.

Step 3 – AI as a Collaborator

I talk to AI like I would talk to a human which helps it to understand my personality and tone. I don’t treat it as a be-all-end-all – it’s a collaborator in my business. That means we’re working together to accomplish the goal and I’m not just taking what it gives me and using it.

To have a better collab with AI:

  • Feed it your content and ask it to evaluate your voice or rework it to better fit your voice.
  • Give it additional context about your audience so the outputs hit better.
  • Ask follow up questions to refine ideas or prompt it to ask YOU questions.
  • When you’re feeling stuck, vent it out to AI and let it help you organize all your thoughts and ideas. Honestly, some of the best ideas have stemmed from me feeling stuck and frustrated and just brain dumping everything in ChatGPT. 😂

Step 4 – Edit for Authenticity

AI outputs are never a final draft. I always tweak everything it gives me, even if the output is on point with my voice. I spend a lot of time adding things, removing things, reading and re-reading. I even read out loud to see if it feels natural AND I’ve also used voice notes to listen back to it. That’s the overthinker in me. 🫠

But it helps a ton and makes sure that everything I’ve received from AI has my actual personal touch added to it. Not to mention, copy/pasting the outputs is risky when it comes to plagiarism.

Even with the time I spend tweaking it, it still saves me time in the end. When I start from scratch, I often just sit there staring at the blinking cursor of doom because my brain cannot compute.

Step 5 – Go With Your Gut

At the end of the day, you know your brand and audience better than anyone, even AI. If something feels off, trust your gut and either tweak it more or scrap it entirely. AI is merely a tool, not a replacement. Not everything is going to be usable or feel like you.

Real Life Example

I’m writing an email about an upcoming workshop to plan Q1 with AI. Here’s the prompt:

“Write a brief, conversational email inviting solopreneurs to a workshop on planning Q1 with AI tools. Use my casual and relatable brand voice.”

Even with all the priming I’ve done, it’s still a snoozefest and feels forced. I’m not saying I’m the most interesting person but we can definitely make this better.

My Tweak

Subject: Let’s make a plan for Q1

P.S. If you haven’t started priming your AI tool [link to blog post], you’ll want to do that before the workshop! It’ll make the process much more personalized.

It took me like 5 minutes to rework it. I know it’s not a long email but trust me when I say that I have spent literal hours writing a simple freakin’ email. I’ll probably go through and sprinkle in some emojis before I send it but my tweaked version feels much more ME.

Why AI Works for my Business

Using AI in the ways mentioned above has been a total game-changer for my business (and my brain!) It saves me time and energy when my brain is fried, reduces decision fatigue by giving me a solid starting point, and helps me stay consistent without cranking out generic content.

Battling neurodivergence, introversion, parenthood, and chronic illness has made solopreneurship a lengthy battle but when I use ChatGPT like a biz partner, it helps me keep my workload manageable, sustainable, and doable even on my lowest of low-energy days.

I help wellness businesses build and streamline their memberships, courses, and digital products in Kajabi. Whether it’s setting up a seamless tech foundation or optimizing your member experience, I create systems that work for you.

hey, I'm Kasey
